PressForm3D die casting tooling design

Armrest with bracket for high-speed trains

The castings themselves were redesigned first, then two moulds were designed.

An armrest with bracket for seats in high-speed train carriages.

What was done

The work began with the part rather than with the tooling: the castings were redesigned from end to end. The original geometry was not suited to high pressure die casting, and building a mould around it would have meant scrap from the first shot.

  • Redesign of the castings — 2 weeks.
  • Design of the two moulds — 6 weeks.

This is a common situation: two weeks spent on the part beat months of reworking the mould afterwards.
