Housing for a street luminaire mounted on lighting columns. Three moulds, each suited to a different casting machine.

An LED street light housing measuring 740×310 mm, mounted on lighting columns. A large thin-walled casting with extensive ribbing: the housing doubles as the heat sink.

Design decisions

• Three moulds were designed — for the housing, the front frame and the back cover.
• Different gating systems, each matched to the geometry of its part.
• The moulds fit several die casting machines, which leaves the customer free to load the shop as it suits them.

Heat sink ribbing calls for particular care with venting: without a considered path for the air, thin ribs simply do not fill.
